Church

Ever since the opening of the first Church Day School back in 1831, St. Stephen’s has had a very close involvement with children’s education in Lindley. Lindley CE (VA) Infant School was dedicated by the Bishop of Wakefield in 1954 and was then the first of the new Church of England Aided Schools in the Wakefield Diocese.

St Stephen's Church as a place of sanctuary

We are finding ourselves overwhelmed with high profile events and tragedies in the news at the moment – from the attacks in London and Manchester, Grenfell Tower and more. We know that the community feel bombarded with bad news, as a faith centre in the middle of the community here we have, as you know, opened the building on several occasions to allow space for prayer and quiet reflection, as well as refreshment and a listening ear. As these events continue to pile up on the news and in our minds and hearts, we would like to offer the church more regularly as a place of sanctuary in this way. From next week to the end of term we will be opening the church from 4pm-6pm on Fridays for anyone who would like to drop in (June 30th/ July 7 th/14th /21st) . People of all faiths and none are welcome to pop in.
